Pattaya People

Well it was now time to make my annual visit to Pattaya... what's the attraction with this place? Are we its sexual satellite's forever condemned to orbit around its seedy gravitational pull? Are the bar-girls a modern day version of the Sirens? Seducing us and ultimately leaving us wrecked and broken, on the rocks.

Can we break the cycle? Do we want to? What are the alternatives? Many questions and not many answers...

Pattaya Advice
Anyway, knowing I was on a budget and about to arrive, what follows is some great advice from a Pattaya veteran...

A guy who likes a drink and some fun with bargirls can get through 5000/10000 baht a day in Pattaya without even trying.

Barfining just one GG girl and taking her for a few drinks before heading home will often cost 5000/6000 (BF 1000, ST/LT 1500/3000, drinks 2000)

Start adding in food/accomodation/transport/entertainment costs and a holiday in Pattaya isn't so cheap.

For those guys who really want to let their hair down and have a party the cost can reach 15000/20000 baht on a night out. A lot of the guys I know will spend this amount, it's not just me, and it's not because we're all rich, far from it. That's just how much it can cost to have a night to remember in Pattaya nowadays.

Drink draft beer, don't buy anyone else a drink, wait until the bars are closed to avoid paying a BF, don't aim for the younger/sexier girls, only do ST's, never buy food or anything else for a bar girl, stay in very basic accommodation, look for cheap places to eat...... and 1000 baht still goes a long way

Sir marj, I guess you already booked a hotel room in Pattaya, but some other ideas for saving money.

Soi 7 beer bars have happy hour(S) in the afternoon. Bottled beers 45/55 baht.

Breadcrumbed fish and chips in The Pig and Whistle soi 7 is fantastic for approx 200 baht.

John Smiths draught beer is 160 baht a pint in The Buthchers arms in Soi Boukhaow. Korma/Madras/Vindaloo curries in their are good too for 210 baht.

If you like noodles but don't trust the hygene of street vendors get a bowl of 'Moo dang' (red pork) with noodles in any branch of MK for 60 baht approx

If you want a good seafood meal at a budget price but in nice surroundings and away from tourists then there is a great place called Suan Ba Noo near the traffic lights at the crossroads of 3rd road and North Pattaya road. As an example, at the moment this restaurant is selling the same wine for 800 baht which is on sale in a Pattaya wine shop for 4500 baht. They also serve the biggest prawns I've ever seen.

The cinema in the shopping complex The Avenue (Thais call it Major) is excellent value for 140 baht per movie. Always go 20 mins after the start time to avoid adverts.

If you are going to drink in Peppermint or Happy on more than one occasion open a bottle of spirits. 1800 baht for a bottle of Jack with 4 mixers. The staff will mark the bottle and save it until your next visit. This saves the need to buy any lady drinks and the girls get tipsey/drunk instead of sipping coke.

Food counter at Foodland supermarket is good value and open 24/7.

A good place but more upmarket is Beefeater on Soi Diana Inn. Dinner for two and a nice bottle of plonk approx 2500 baht.

Buy some Cialis (or the cheaper copy Apcalis at 125 per tablet) to make you horny as hell and then take 1 or 2 Tramadols (or the copy Volcidol which are 50 baht for a pack of 10). The Tramadol is perfectly legal and puts you in a lovely, relaxed mood. You will be able to fuck all night with a smile on your face ...... If you can't get to sleep take a Xanax (or one of the numerous copies at 10 baht each).

Oasis GGB on soi Buakhaou is good fun and if you introduce yourself to the American owner he will make sure the girls give you some bang for your buck.

The best place to send the girls to get their hair or make-up done is called Durn Jai on soi BJ, for 150 baht they could make Britney Spears look sexy again........ hang on a minute that's probably not on your list of things you you need to know

Pattaya Arrival
Well my arrival in Pattaya did not get off too a good start. Booked into Pattaya centre hotel simply because it was convenient to do so over the internet, but something was telling me this was not the right place. I had booked in here before Xmas 2005 but I was with my 'girlfriend' then and booked into the superior suites. That time everything went fine. She left early and I brought a couple of girls back to the room, no questions asked.

This time they give me the room with 2 single beds, that could not properly support a small child let alone a fully grown man with two very demanding testicle... for these beds they then want to charge me a 400b joiner fee! I cancel my remaining time there and temporarily back in the Flipper soi 7, 1000b a night. The rooms here are super comfortable, no problem bringing guests back, but right in the centre of the action and all the Johns etc. So today im going to look around the other hotels recommended on the Pattaya thread.

Last night went into Silver Star Agogo soi 7 to see if my old flame from my last trip was still in there, she was not. The Silver star on soi 8 is open again and so I went inside and there she was, looking as cute as 6 months ago. I wonder how many cocks she has had it that time Maybe i should not think about such things. I did not BF her because I had to spend one night in that shitty hotel and I was not going to pay a joiner fee.

Well after 2 nights in Pattaya, not got laid yet. If past performance is an indication of what is to come, tonight I should find someone. Good looking girls are thin on the ground, more so than i have noticed in the past. Lets put this down to a false start and bad timing.

Yesterday I walk along soi Buakhaou, soi Diana etc looking at different hotels.

Tomorrow im moving into sunview, I liked it there, and the area is virtually unexplored by me. Had a nice full English breakfast and large coffee, orange juice and cola for under 150b. So cheaper here at least.

Koh Larn
Today went to Koh Larn, and cannot say I really enjoyed it, far to many tourists and the noise pollution from them and the masses of boats, jet skis just leaves you wanting... Wont be returning.

To get the ferry to the Islands you need to walk up to the end of Walking street and then up the end of pier and jump on the boat for approx 100baht return, but be prepaid to get squashed.

I suppose its something you have to try and you either love it or hate it. Very hot, and without trying have really caught the sun.

Well plan to stay in Pattaya for the remainder of the week and then am still considering a visit to Jakarta...

Pattaya is just too tourist centric now, it may be my last visit unless something really changes that frame of mind in the coming days.

No Pussy

Reality Check
Was sat at a beer bar yesterday afternoon and noticed this really hot girl come walking down the street with a big smile on her face and then noticed the rough looking farang she was with who did not look so happy. Then looked down and she had 3 big shopping bags. The trouble with me now, I can just see through everything. What is it with women and shopping? Does it not really impoverish their soul? Well maybe not in Pattaya, pinch yourself, this is not the place to get mindful, this is a place that caters for all your short term(short time) physical desires, your addictions, your escapism.

Oasis, soi Buakhaou
Well yesterday moved to the sunview hotel on soi Buakhaou. This is kind of like the marginal zone of gogos and bars, perhaps in a few more years more tourists will start to wander down this way.

On the horizon, there are many cranes. On the corner of soi metro they have one of those ice bars with girls dancing in the windows. Very commercial. Its called the Blue bar.

I stopped off in a bar along the road just to have a cola and the bottle of coca cola 25b, so much cheaper along here.

Got talking to a cutie down soi 2, but again more interested in ST at 1000b. Was tempted, and starting to think need to adjust my plan and go for some short time here.

Headed back up to beach road and did a few gogos down Pattayaland far eastern Nevada etc. But nothing going in there. Then kittens and the one opposite with the school girls uniforms on. Again much the same. Kittens has been cut in half now and over half of them are ladyboys, its seems this is going down hill rapid now. I think they tried pushing that catz theme for too long. I always seem to have better fun in Bangkok and feel more relaxed there than here. For me sitting in some of the bars feels like im in the UK and have to watch what I say and who I look at, takes some getting used to. And there is far more quantity than quality. Lots of people here experience this - not just me.

I consider this still the left over of the high season and its not my favourite time, no no no - give it another month or so and low season will kick in properly.

Well one things for sure, starting to spend alot less now. I may stay here and then the last few nights back in Bangkok. I have to think about expenses. I dont think im up for a Jakarta trip. I even thought about cutting the trip back to 2 weeks rather than 3. Its feels different for me this time as im between jobs and when I go back iv got to get back into the work ethic again so dont want to sink too deeply if you know what I mean. Tonight im just going out and not expecting anything - just going to enjoy some shows and drinks - hmmm sounds a bit like home.
