Bucharest Old Town

Arrive in Bucharest Romania from Budapest Hungary. Staying in an Apartment on Piata Unir considered ground zero for hedonistic nights in bucuresti and hopefully meeting some sexy Bucharest girls. Well today I went into a local travel agent along soi Buakaow to see the best they could do for a flight to Jakarta. Bad News

Around Pattaya there is so much quantity but it can be hard to find quality. If you do find quality you know you cannot get too close, not me, not anymore. Anyway, knowing I was on a budget and about to arrive, what follows is some great advice from a Pattaya veteran...

A guy who likes a drink and some fun with bargirls can get through 5000/10000 baht a day in Pattaya without even trying.

Barfining just one GG girl and taking her for a few drinks before heading home will often cost 5000/6000 (BF 1000, ST/LT 1500/3000, drinks 2000)

Start adding in food/accomodation/transport/entertainment costs and a holiday in Pattaya isn't so cheap.

For those guys who really want to let their hair down and have a party the cost can reach 15000/20000 baht on a night out. A lot of the guys I know will spend this amount, it's not just me, and it's not because we're all rich, far from it. That's just how much it can cost to have a night to remember in Pattaya nowadays.

Drink draft beer, don't buy anyone else a drink, wait until the bars are closed to avoid paying a BF, don't aim for the younger/sexier girls, only do ST's, never buy food or anything else for a bar girl, stay in very basic accommodation, look for cheap places to eat...... and 1000 baht still goes a long way

Soi 7 beer bars have happy hour(S) in the afternoon. Bottled beers 45/55 baht.

Breadcrumbed fish and chips in The Pig and Whistle soi 7 is fantastic for approx 200 baht.

John Smiths draught beer is 160 baht a pint in The Buthchers arms in Soi Boukhaow. Korma/Madras/Vindaloo curries in their are good too for 210 baht.

If you like noodles but don't trust the hygene of street vendors get a bowl of 'Moo dang' (red pork) with noodles in any branch of MK for 60 baht approx

If you want a good seafood meal at a budget price but in nice surroundings and away from tourists then there is a great place called Suan Ba Noo near the traffic lights at the crossroads of 3rd road and North Pattaya road. As an example, at the moment this restaurant is selling the same wine for 800 baht which is on sale in a Pattaya wine shop for 4500 baht. They also serve the biggest prawns I've ever seen.

The cinema in the shopping complex The Avenue (Thais call it Major) is excellent value for 140 baht per movie. Always go 20 mins after the start time to avoid adverts.

If you are going to drink in Peppermint or Happy on more than one occasion open a bottle of spirits. 1800 baht for a bottle of Jack with 4 mixers. The staff will mark the bottle and save it until your next visit. This saves the need to buy any lady drinks and the girls get tipsey/drunk instead of sipping coke.

Food counter at Foodland supermarket is good value and open 24/7.

Nationwide told me they never block their cards. So Nationwide was definitely looking the way to go. I also ordered some Thai Baht online with Travelex to pick up before departing from the UK. Like to have some cash on arrival. The exchange rate at this time was not good, seems the Thai baht was getting stronger; 60.6673 for £1, Usually around 65. So far flight is alot more expensive, poor exchange rate and I have no job, so was digging into savings and not wages, but we only live once. Because of this, there is not much point in going out before 10:00pm when the strip joints open, last night I headed out about 7:30pm and just had something to eat and drink in the Dublin and then headed to the Kama Sutra about 10:00pm - Had a quick peek in the Sheraton, the bar there was empty and downstairs they have a club called 'Angels' - looks very smart but did not open until 10:30pm - so continued to Kama Sutra.

Arrived at Sofia international airport about 1:30pm Bulgarian time( 2 hours ahead from the UK) flight was crowded took approx 2:40 mins from London.

What is sex tourism?

Travelling to a foreign country with the express intention of having sex with local prostitutes, usually involving the handing over of money or gifts in return. In many of these destination countries prostitution is legal, so there's no law preventing specialist resorts and 'hotels' from openly advertising the 'services' on offer on the internet. Figures of Western adults travelling with the explicit purpose of having sex with consenting adults in their destination country do not exist.

Is sex tourism new?

Although with the increased ease and decreased cost of international travel, the scale of sex tourism currently seen is unlike anything ever seen before, the actual notion of travelling to foreign countries for sex is far from new. Some point all the way back to Christopher Columbus and his crew who brought syphilis to the New World in the 16th century. Perhaps the key turning point, however, was the Vietnam War, in which thousands of American GIs would use their 'R&R' time to travel to brothels in neighbouring Thailand. There's no doubting that sex tourism is now a veritable industry for many countries, most notably in the Far East and Central America. The appeals for tourists are obvious – reduced costs, along with either legal prostitution or indifferent law enforcement, and access to children. In June this year young Latvians staged a revolt against an influx of so-called 'sex terrorists' who they claim have turned Riga into the 'Bangkok of the Baltic'. The capital has become increasingly popular with British stag parties looking for cheap alcohol and casual sex, with the number of visitors rising by 54% since 2004.

How can it be justified?

Like prostitution, which has been made legal in several Western countries, there is an argument that any adult's body is his or hers to do with as she pleases, including selling it for sex. Fidel Castro even gave a speech to the National Assembly of the People's Government in 2002 saying: 'There are no women forced to sell themselves to a man, to a foreigner, to a tourist. Those who do so do it on their own, voluntarily, and without any need for it.' In countries where the average yearly wage can be just a few hundred dollars, to earn $80 a day to be a 'paid girlfriend' of a Western tourist has an obvious appeal. Many would argue that to deny a woman this right would in many ways deny her fundamental basic freedoms that could be seen as tantamount or worse than other forms of slavery. If, like several of the women featured in both of the Channel 4 shows, they are using prostitution and the money Western men bring with them as a 'passport' out of poverty, or to fund them or their families into a better quality of life, is this not their choice? But do Western men not fuel the fire of economic inequality and exacerbate the problems in these countries? Without there seeming to be any monitoring and regulation of the conditions and practices of the 'industry', the health, wealth and welfare of these women would appear to be at the mercy of the owners of these specialist resorts. Is anyone doing anything to stop it?

Adults travelling specifically to have sex with other consenting (if paid) adults in foreign countries are not seemingly monitored or controlled by any country. So, will sex tourism ever be dealt with as long as there are economic disparities between countries and people have undeniable and unquenchable urges to have sex? Should we not be looking at our own societies for an answer rather than all-too-easily pointing the finger of blame at paedophiles and lonely middle-aged men?

What happens when children are involved?

The US Department of State estimates that over 1 million children are exploited in the global commercial sex trade each year – it's in this field that the majority of international outrage and on-going legislation change is understandably focused.

Enshrined in the Sexual Offences Act 2003 was the power to bring Britons to trial in the UK for alleged sex offences committed abroad – but only if they are also considered crimes in that country, a loophole that the NSPCC wants to see closed. There's also a soon-to-be-launched Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre, which will see specialist law enforcement officers brought together with lawyers and charities to fight paedophiles. Police also hope a new G8 initiative for a shared computer database of sex abuse images will help the international effort. But is just three convictions enough to send out the right signals? How can we still allow paedophiles who have had underage sex abroad to remain free in this country?

International action
With those that can be proven to be seeking sex with children, the international community has made significant inroads in recent years. At least 32 countries now have extraterritorial laws that allow the prosecution of their citizens for Child Sex Tourism crimes committed abroad. In response to the phenomenon of CST, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the tourism industry, and governments have begun to address the issue. The World Tourism Organization (WTO) established a task force to combat CST. The WTO, the NGO End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes (ECPAT), and Nordic tour operators created a global Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism in 1999. As of June 2005, 200 travel companies from 21 countries had signed the code (www.thecode.org)

Money Access Woes

Guys im having serious problems here with credit cards iv had 3 blocked. Amex(American Express), Mastercard and Visa. Its a real pain trying to ring them up and get them unblocked!

Eventually got through to Mastercard and then security did not start until 9am UK time - 3pm here. Eventually get through to an Indian call centre and could not understand them. unblocked now but really ruined my day!

How can you stop this? The situation could have been significantly worse. I guess wihdrawing money on a credit card in Pattaya rings loads of alarm bells with their software. Sometimes this happens more than once i have to ring them many times. I just dont trust they are going to work anymore - so much for their convienence.

Good Advice from an Expat
Using credit cards in Thailand is not a good idea, except in emergencies.

Brits coming to LOS should open a Nationwide Flex account. There are no charges for using an ATM anywhere in the world and the exchange rate is always better than most other banks. Make sure the card is not also a debit card so that if lost or stolen the card is useless to anyone unless they also have the pin number.

Always check an ATM out before using it to make certain that there are no electronic devices designed to steal card details. This is common in Pattaya, only today the local media is warning that a new device has been found which is better at fooling ATM users.

If anybody starts talking to you while you are using an ATM, do not listen to them or reply, just cancel the transaction and remove your card. Some of the scammers are very skilfull at distracting an ATM user and using the opportunity to steal the card and/or pin number.

If the ATM screen ever says " Transaction cancelled, refer to issuing bank" you will be charged for the cash requested even though no cash has been dispensed. Make a note of the location of the ATM and the time because you will need to reclaim the money from your own bank. For some reason Bangkok Bank ATM's used to be more prone to this problem.

So i probably lost a good few baht on a low exchange rate and then got charged a whopping 7 pounds for withdrawing my money. This was with a debit card.
This is ok, for a few withdrawals, but if you were out there long term, this could end up cutting a couple weeks off your stay all these charges. On return to UK I had a few thousand baht to change to sterling, they buy back at 78 baht and charge two pounds on top!

Nationwide the way to go - UK only

Disadvantages:
Without a backup source of money or payment system, if it fails for whatever reason, then you could have a problem . But that applies to whatever method chosen . The foreign bank that owns the ATM could charge a handling fee, but that applies to all cards .

Well it is the most cost efficient method of obtaining foreign currency abroad.
It is also the cheapest method of paying for goods and services where a debit card can be used.

The reason it that the Nationwide does not levy any additional fees or charges for using the card abroad.
They treat it exactly the same as using it within the UK.

I have used my card several times when on holiday in foreign lands and to date the
EXCHANGE RATE has ALWAYS been BETTER THAN when using ANY OTHER METHOD,
for the cash received or goods and services purchased.

This applies to credit cards, traveller’s cheques and using bureau de change offices to exchange sterling.

I was sceptical at first and only withdrew small amounts on a couple of occasions during the holiday.
The ATM’s always had a button that allowed the transaction to be completed in English, which gave some comfort.
This was always on the same day that I would use my Visa or MasterCard for another purchase.
I would usually exchange some sterling, also on the same day, recording the exchange rate if not provided with a detailed receipt. After returning home I’d have a quick check of my receipts, credit card and FlexAccount statements.

I have had almost a 10% difference in the actual sterling cost of obtaining or spending the same amount of foreign currency. The smaller the value the worse it can be.
The FlexAccount always came out top.

I tried this on 3 holidays to different destinations before I came to rely on this method.

Places tried include France, Spain, Bahrain, Lanzarote and Tenerife.

I have yet to be charged a handling fee by the foreign bank whose ATM I used to make the withdrawal, although I understand that this is possible.
All the more reason to get the best deal to start with since this would apply irrespective of which English bank your account was held at.

The only places I have been to since and not used my ATM card to obtain cash are Turkey and Sri Lanka.
Reasons are:
The Sri Lanka visits were all to an all-inclusive hotel complex that we only left once in 3 holidays.
Turkey is a bit different. (But does have plenty of ATMs)

The exchange rate can fluctuate by a significant amount on a daily basis because of their inflation problem.

Look out for the signs, try a favourite bar or restaurant, even try the hotel reception or staff.
Check what the rate is at the official exchanges and then just make sure you get a better rate.
This is not usually a problem and you’ll get a cup of apple tea or cold drink thrown in for free.
Might even have an English newspaper to read if you don’t want to watch the world go by.

But I digress.

THE REASON WHY NATIONWIDE IS BEST.

Until the weekend I only knew that they didn’t levy certain charges that other card issuers did.
The Nationwide “didn’t think that they should charge you to gain access to your own money.”
Well here are the details.
There tends to be 2 fees.
The first is a “published” “handling fee” of around 2.25%, usually subject to a maximum of £4 or £5.
My experience is that this has a minimum value of £1 to £2
The second is a “hidden” “exchange rate loading fee” and can be between 2.25% and 2.75%.

Using these figures:
This means a transaction with a value of £200 at an ATM ABROAD on your FlexAccount costs £200.
The same transaction at an ATM ABROAD using one of these other banks card and account would cost at least £210.
AND IT COULD BE MORE
They can be higher and if they are for your account then you are really being RIPPED OFF!

Travellers cheques have inherent additional costs, usually when both buying and cashing.
Even commission free exchanges tend to “adjust” the exchange rate so that they make money from the transaction.

Transactions of the ATM kind, are not based on the “tourist” rates that you or I can expect when exchanging small amounts of only a few tens or even a few hundred pounds.
They ARE based on “wholesale exchange rates” involving millions if not billions of pounds.
THESE RATES ARE MUCH MORE FAVOURABLE!

SO IT MAKES SENSE TO USE THEM
BUT ONLY IF YOUR BANK DOESN’T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE FACT!

Check that your holiday destination has ATM’s, most countries do but if you’re in the back of beyond.
Travel agents should be able to advise.
I understand that www.visa.com and www.mastercard.com has a worldwide list of cash machine locations.
You will need the Visa site if the card is a DELTA or PLUS type.
For MAESTRO or CIRRUS types, they are associated with MasterCard
The FlexAccount card I have has a CIRRUS logo on the back.

The FlexAccount is not somewhere I keep anything other than a token amount of money.
Better interest rates mean that my savings are elsewhere, but I LOAD IT WITH CASH before leaving.

Make sure the FlexAccount has more money in it than you are going to spend on holiday.
Remember this is NOT A CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT.
You are taking cash out of or spending money from, your own account.
If it’s not there you cannot get it, unless perhaps though an overdraft facility, but if you’re charged for this then you’re defeating the whole point.
Check that the ATM card works.
Make sure the PIN number is ETCHED ON YOUR BRAIN.
Check that it WILL NOT EXPIRE whilst you are away.
If possible, and like me your travelling with your partner, have 2 accounts and 2 ATM cards, 1 each!
Split the money between accounts and keep the cards separate.
Allows loss, theft and being “eaten” by a machine. The latter has never happened to me.
If you have credit cards always take these anyway, you never know what emergency might just happen.

Activation
Just an update.

With credit cards i never use them to withdraw cash, just order things online etc. I took them on holiday with me in case of emergency. But the problems i initially had with Mastercard and Amex is that i had not activated them to withdraw cash. You have to do this first usually via a phone call.

Have now checked all my cards and there have been no fantom withdrawals.

I am now waiting for my Nationwide flex account to be opened. Before going on holiday in the future will load this up with cash to withdraw.

So the way to go is:

1. Inform all providers you will be travelling on the specified dates.

2. Transfer money to your nationwide account - remember takes a few working days for this to become available. Make sure its enough.

3. Take some cash for simple exchange or buy online at Travelex before departure for some initial cash.

4. Take some back up cards different types Mastercard and Visa etc.

Walking Street
Last night hit a few gogo's off Walking street soi Happy i think. Baby Doll, Whats up, Angel Witch and Beach Club. Did not really see any bf material though.

Buffalo Bar
The next night took a detour and went to the Buffalo Bar on third road. Seems like Pattaya's night life never ends as we wound around the roads to this outpost destination. Weigh the gold get the best price. Change shops and weigh the gold and get the best price..compare the two or three shops. I can't remeber how many grams a baht is ..Its Thai style so I'm sure it makes no sense.

If its a good piece of gold not much haggling can be done...if its a piece that has sat in the shop for too long then they'll haggle or really feel you are a tight Charley they will. But in reason.

Now asking my wife next to me about weight and price she is telling me you get 1baht in weight for 11,000B to 12,000 depending on design you mentioned I think 24,000 baht you are buying a 2baht gold chain

Now it sounds confusing but Thais count the weight of gold in Baht which of course is different from Thai Baht money.

My wedding ring cost 5800Baht for I think 7.5 grams, its a simple ring..at a guess you are buying an ounce ..28 grams on the scale.

The last thing I would double check if I was you is to ask a Thai. In your hotel or anywhere really what a two baht chain is worth...they all know the current price as gold prices fluctuate with the gold market value..also check real hard when you buy it for minor scratches as gold is resold and exchanged alot.

Gold is measured in troy ounces which contain just over 33 grams not your dealer ounces. Be careful as disreputable jewelers will point to the price on the markets and divide by 28 not 33 thus pointing to a perceived higher price per gram.

While im here, also looking at these fake Rolex, seems you can get a non automatic one down to about 300bht and an automatic for 1000bht. Has anyone brought one of these and do they last longer than one month?

Golden Lesson

Currently 1grm gold = 900bht.

They sell two types european/international which is your 18carat and 14 carat. 18 carat is 75-80% gold whereas 14 carat is approx 60% gold. This is very strong and will never break. So is more an alloy usually with copper etc added which gives it its color too.

The other type is Thai gold which is your 23 carat, but this is very soft and easily breaks. Not as good as international gold apparently. Most is machine made too apparently. Its thai gold that they tend to use the baht standard on.
Where 1 bht = 15.2 grms.

The length of the chain is important too. The advantage with 24" is that it just slides over your head whereas a 22" you will have to unclip it each time. But obviously you will pay more for the longer one. But it is a one off lifetime purchase, so dont cut corners. Remember cheap can be very expensive in these situations.

Thai gold
Thais prefer Thai gold as it has more gold in it and they know they can trade it back here, its almost like money here assuming price of gold keeps going up.
Trading international gold here, not so good price trying to sell it back.

Most gem shops sell european gold though as its more what the europeans want. Most of the Thai gold is machine made so no labour cost in the making of the item.

So it would seem to me on each trip to buy some Thai gold as much as you can afford, then come back a year later and sell it back and have at least a few days free.... a good strategy or what? Personally i am not keen on wearing the Thai gold - but thats why they sell the european here. My mate had a Thai gold wedding ring and after a year it had all warped.

The purchase
Looked at many gold chains and fell in love with one - hand made not machine made - it really really stands out and i want it badly - but wow - the price the equivalent of 750 pounds! She cannot go lower else no profit. it weighs a ton when you hold it in your hand this is 18 carat. I was really interested in a more expensive chain in Quality gems but did not have it in 24" and would have to wait 5-6 days for them to make one.

Well i am now the proud owner of a 750 pounds gold chain. That UK money and not the weight of the chain :-). I went round a couple of jewellers to get some more information. I found Thai jewellers to be very professional in fact, they know their gold etc. Two in particular i found good was Quality Gems along Walking street and World Gems just opposite Walking street.

My chain is hand made 24" 18 carat weighing 56.8 grms.
so 57 * 900 = 51300
51300 / 68 = 754.41
So seems i got a fair price.

Hope this helps any others who may be considering a purchasing a gold chain on their next visit to Pattaya.

Fake Rolex
As for the Rolex got a really good looking one black face and silver bracelet, automatic - if this lasts i will be happy. it really looks like the business.
It feels heavy too. When i brought it he changed the date and time to current Thai time.

Back at the hotel, I think i will change it to UK time, but the dial will not seem to budge anyway... so hopefully i will catch him on the beach today and he can show me how to reset the thing... anyone had this problem?

On my return trip had to change at Dubia, and they had all the same gold for sale there - 22/23 and 18ct machine and hand made. Again the 18ct and hand made was a few dollars more. Was approx $25 dollars a gramme. So it worked out the same price.

Not Rolex
Back at home the Rolex has stopped working, oh well can afford to lose 600 baht, wont be buying one of those again. No looking in some jewellers back home and the same watch is closer to £3000, oh well maybe when I get my bonus, may treat myself to a real Rolex watch, the Datejust, but i wont be wearing that in Pattaya. Funny really, coz if we cant tell the difference between the fakes and the real ones, should not get paranoid about it. If you see a guy wearing a Rolex in Thailand, you assume its fake and he has no class.

Arrived in Pattaya for the remainder of my vacation. Checked into the Flipper Lodge on soi 8. Got one of the premium rooms that were going for 1000bht a night - quite expensive, but room was very comfortable and in the centre of the action.

Pattaya in Thailand is a great destination for sexual activities previously quoted as the Mecca of sex destinations.
Many girls here although all looking much the same. For me, the easily available reasonably cheap sex is just one part of it. When travelling to SEA as a single male, I always stop off in Bangkok for at least 3 or 4 nights and then tend to head somewhere i have not been before. This year it was to be Kuala Lumpur(KL). While walking about was approached by many guys every hundred yards or so, but these looked unsavory characters and did not want to take my chances with them.

To be honest i was looking forward to returning to Thailand and spending the rest of my vacation in Pattaya. I was not in top form here and only scratched the surface, but much prefer an open mongering scene - cant beat the Gogos of Bangkok and Pattaya. Cant really rate it as a mongering destination, ok if you live there or on business.Good to visit though.

Next time i need to spend a week relaxing at a resort then do the excursion.

Well, id thought id give my thoughts and impressions of my return to BKK after 1 years absence, the longest I have been away from LOS(Land of Smiles) in the past 5 years.

Flight
Emirates about 500 pounds from Gatwick, change at Dubai about 3 hour stopover. Got to check in early and managed to get exits seats for both legs of the journey. But, to left of me was a big fat bastard who spilled over into my seat and to the right a crying baby. Second half much better, but very little sleep and much wind, to the disgust of my fellow passengers.

Arrived at the new airport, you are now expected to show your boarding card when stepping off the plane and at passport control - so dont throw it away. Official taxi stands all over the airport, queried them about a taxi to sukhumvit - 1000bht - nice car. Not interested, you have to go downstairs to ground floor and outside to get standard yellow taxi for 400bht. Same journey time to centre of BKK(Bangkok) arrived at the Manhattan on soi 15.

Hotel Manhattan
Good all round hotel. No problem bringing girls back. Lots of Asians stay there, mostly Japanese, I think. Swimming pool is nice to relax by for a few hours.

Ouydaya in Gueliz
Had all friday day in and around town, I was staying in hotel Ouydaya in Gueliz. Gueliz is the old french colonial new town. Walking around here, you could be in France.

The Medina is the old town and very interesting, in this square is where they use to hold executions. A taxi in the daytime to the Medina and around Marrakesh is 10Dhr.
Leaving the Medina(tourist spot) can be anything up to 40dhr, cheapest I managed was 20dhr.

None of the resturants sell alcohol in this area. But managed to find one place called the Kozy Bar a little walk away from the main square.

I would recommend trying to stay at this hotel if you love your alcohol. Nothing in the way of girls though. Not approached, no eye contact, not many girls about at all.

The great thing with these airlines is the real time booking. Generally though you need to print out a voucher. The other thing to watch with these airlines is they charge extra if your baggage is over 15kg. I wish we could book hotel rooms up in real time, don't see why not.

Anyway got to the Clark airport on time, quite a bit of security there. And you have to pay 350pesos departure tax and fill in an exit visa.

So it was goodbye to Angeles, I reckon there will be a return visit one day though, I was now heading to back to Singapore and then a joining flight back to Bangkok in Thailand. From there I was going to spend my last week in Pattaya.

Interlude - Subic Bay - Blue Rock
The next day left for Subic. Im gonna add a little report of this place here, as it was more a break from Angeles and i did not get up to much there... was still recovering from all the travelling and 2 nights intense fucking.

Journey To Angeles

It seems Singapore is the travel hub around SEA with most of the budget airlines operating from there. So after spending a few nights in Singapore and a few more in Batam, Indonesia, booked a flight to Clark Airbase Angeles City with Tiger Airways.

Left for Clark Airbase on the Sunday and would be staying until the following Friday. So 5 nights to experience this place, that should be on every ones list. Booked a hotel from the following recommended site.
Orchid Resort looked good, in the centre of the action and a nice pool to relax maybe during the day. It took them over 24 hours to respond to my reservation request and then all the cheapest standard rooms had been taken. So had to go with a premium room. Did not want to turn up here without a hotel to head too.

The flight was fine, only about 2/3rds full, so had 3 seats to myself, took under 4 hours to arrive. And arrive I did!

Arrival
When I arrived I had no PI peso's. The ATM at the airport was not working. Taxi driver agreed to take me to an ATM first and then to the hotel. Which he did. The centre of Angeles is only 10 minute ride from the Clark airport.

The weather was really nice when I arrived and the people seemed very friendly. Checked into my hotel without any problems and the rooms were good and fully stocked with drinks,snacks and all the toiletries your heart could ever desire.

I had not quite got my conversions right and needed to goto an ATM again. Meant to get 20,000 pesos out but only got 2000. Stepping out of the hotel, you get kind of mobbed by all the street sellers. I headed out of my hotel and ended walking down Fields Avenue towards Insomnia. This road is the main drag.

Im in Singapore now. I had some grief at the checkin with Tiger airways. If your bag is over a certain limit(15KG i think) they charge extra. The girl then kept trying to confuse me as to how much more could i pay? At one time she said 3000 Baht. I was about to take my bag back, cut my losses and go back into Bangkok. Mr Angry for the second time in a short space of time. My debit card had stopped working a few hours before. In the end I had to pay an extra 600 Baht. So check the weight of your bag and you can pay the extra 600 Baht on the website, upto 20KG. Think mine is about 23KG. The other thing is it holds up the check-in queue as people pull things out of their hold luggage into their hand luggage in order to avoid the extra charge.

Laundry
When travelling to SEA on vacation for some serious mongering I hope, its really not necessary to take masses of cloths. There are laundries all over the place, if you take it into the laundy in the morning it can be back to you in the evening, all clean and pressed. Its very cheap too. Usually the hotel will offer this service too but at a premium just for them to take it across the road for you. The second reason is what you wear does not make any difference in this game. It was the Thursday of the 2nd week and we were beginning to get a bit bored with Varadero and our All-Inclusive. The weather although mostly sunny and hot was a little blustery and un-settled which made relaxin on the beach out of bounds. Too windy basically!

At the banks you can use your debit card but still pay the 12% charge. From our hotel a return trip to the bank in Varadero would be approx 30 CUC so not worth it.

Our taxi was 50CUC to Matanzas. A nice Mecedez car. Took under an hour and he dropped us off in the main square called 'Parque Libertad'. Had to show this to the taxi driver on a piece of paper for him to 'comprendhi' his english not so good, but passable.

My first impressions was it was a bit quieter than i was expecting, the time getting on for 7pm, probably too early for cubans. We entered a huge colonial building that had obviously seen better days that had a small bar in the middle and lots of empty tables in front.
Ordered a couple of cans of beer, no spirits on sale in here. I said to my friend i did not feel good about the place, in terms of meeting chicas, he was forever the optimistic.

The bars down this road are infrequent. There is more people around in the daytime,at night it resembles a ghost town. A few girls walking about, but its not obvious if they are game or not.

Mostly they seem to ignore you, so you assume they are not game!

We hit a bar on the beach called 440 - the owner told us to come back weds night as they have a disco on the beach.

We then went to the bar on calle 13, opposite the Auzual hotel. This bar had a few ladies sitting around. A woman come over to me, and asked if i wanted her friend. But she looked like a heroine addict with AIDS, so naturally i declined.

That night we went into town at night, spent most time at calle 62 bar. lots of tourists around here and a few Cubans standing in the road watching the live entertainment. Was told could meet up here.

Again not much happening so headed for the "La Rhumba" night club.
This was mostly Cubans and they did not seem to be giving us any attention what's so ever.

Wednesday we hit the 440 beach disco, mostly Cubans with their girlfriends, again not much happening from a mongering perspective. My mate asked the bar-owner if he could set us up with a few girls, he said come back tomorrow. Not good enough, we want them now!
Anyway some Cuban guy advised us not to ask girls for sex as the two women over there were under-cover cops! Well maybe he did not realize we were going to ask them for sex. His girlfriend was something else though, could not take my eyes off her.

Basically I just woke up the next morning with a hangover and a headache and my balls a little heavier.

The happening disco in down town Varadero as reported on Cuban junkie is La Pachanga Discotheque Hotel Acuazul.
Has been closed a couple of years, so that site is well out of date!
So not going well in Varadero.

Well the next trip was to Havana and I was not going to fail there.

London Calling

Im in London for the week on a course. Staying in Kensington High Street. Im moving around on foot and by tube in the evening. Can anyone suggest where i can find some good P4P? Have to take it easy on my feet due to breaking my foot in Pattaya on my last trip.

Last night I walked down Sussex gardens and saw nothing. Ok around 9pm, is this too early? I then went to Edgware road, nothing. In the late nineties, the phone boxes were plastered with cards of exotic ladies - they were good too. Whats happened to all the cards? How are these ladies plying their trade now?

Maybe Soho tonight, but this place is a rip off. Any good lap dancing clubs, just want some girly entertainment?

I found a card in Kensington, rang it up, she wanted £150 if I came to her, £250 if she came to me, or £600 for the night! a little too expensive on my budget!

I walked around Soho a couple of nights ago and was approached by one crook after another. Mostly black guys. The area to me is as bad as it has always been. Still plenty of little clubs with a sexy( east European girl ) standing outside inviting you in. For the uninitiated - it does look inviting. But be well advised to not enter.

My first experience in Soho was early 1995, I went into one of these clubs after one of these door girls told me I could have a beer and watch some strippers for about £5. Sounded good. Went in, the girl sat next to me, and they brought a beer over and then demanded a £100. Well I only had £25 pounds on me. I told them to fuck off and proceeded to leave. Then these big guys appeared from the shadows and took my £25. They then went through my pockets. I told them I needed a fare to get back home and nice of them they gave me back £5!

Later on I was then approached by a guy in the street, older white guy who told me he could take me to some beautiful Chinese girls. Just what the doctor suggested I thought , he said 60 for 1 hour. Even escorted me to the ATM( I had hidden my ATM card). Then we went to one of those entrances with the 'Model' sign outside, went upstairs with him. He said money up front, like an idiot I gave it to him. He then returned and said the girls will now come and get me and walked out. Yes with my money and no honey. I was hustled big time!

I knocked on the 'models' door, a very attractive black girl answered and told her what had happened. She said it happens all the time, she was willing to go and get the police, but not something I wanted to do. I still went with her, for about 25. But very quick.

The funny thing is the first time I was in Bangkok, NEP, the first Gogo, i was expecting a repeat of this. But they know how to provide real entertainment. Shame, the red-light area of Soho could be a real little hub of entertainment. I dont understand why it continues to operate as it does.

In 1997, a couple of times I wandered out of Paddington after returning from working in the west country. And ended up on the Edgware road lots of Arab shops down this way. Quite busy. Was in the daytime.

The phone boxes then somewhere down the road were plastered with cards. Most girls were black/Arab/Indian/Asian etc - very exotic. This was around 1997. I had never travelled then like I have now. This was the area I had my first Thai girl - she was gorgeous!

Then I had my first Indian girl here - she was a 10, I mean it guys a real fucking stunner and fucked really good too. They were both students living in some big flats with a kind of underpass through it where the road was. They all seemed to be operating from here. 'Sussex house' seems to spring to mind, may have been where it begins to join with Sussex gardens. Anybody know where I mean? It was nearly 10 years ago now, fuck where does all the time go. It really was good there. Around the £50 for a good session with a real exotic babe!
If there has been a crackdown, i would the guess the girls just find new places and ways to ply their trade.

Some Recommendations:
If I were you, I would log in to Punternet.com, get to the announcement boards, look for party organisers, like Natashaparties, Lady Marmalade, or Sacredrose parties. Go then to their website, check the time and location of the parties, check the girls, and choose one of them. What you will get is 2 h of fucking as much as you can for around 100 £. Only caveat: there is no privacy, and the girl might well give a BBBj to another guy while you fuck her.. But believe me, it's as fun as with 2girls from Eden Club in Bangkok (if you choose properly).

Shepherds Market
The best place IMHO is Mayfair- the little mews streets behind Hilton International Park Lane, a number of which are pedestrianised. There is a pub called the Grapes there- right in the middle of it all. In the mews streets there are houses with 'model' signs and open front doors- go up the stairs, ring the bell, and you can check out the merchandise and have a pop if you feel like it. Its almost unbelievably blatant and easy, give it a go. The area is called Shepherd's Market. Its actually one of the nicest parts of town.

Directions: Hyde Park Corner, or Green park are nearest tube. If you walk form Hyde Park Corner on Picadilly towards Picadilly Circus, it's just on your left.
